Joint research effort will explore scalable HPM integration on Army ground vehicles to strengthen formation-level protection.
Torrance, Calif—October 13, 2026—Epirus today announced it has entered a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Ground Vehicle Systems Center (GVSC). This collaboration will focus on scaling high-power microwave (HPM) technologies, based on the Leonidas platform, to support Army maneuver elements operating across the modern battlespace.
Under the CRADA, Epirus and DEVCOM GVSC will explore pathways to integrate advanced HPM capabilities onto Army ground vehicles, enabling new options for formation-based layered protection and enhancing survivability throughout maneuver ground operations. As Army units face increasingly complex threats from multiple domains, layered protection at the formation level has become essential to maintaining freedom of maneuver.
The effort aims to assess how HPM effects can be employed at the Forward Line of Own Troops (FLOT) and how mobile HPM configurations could support broader formation-protection concepts and tactics.
“The Army continues to pursue emerging technologies that enhance protection, mobility, and adaptability for Soldiers on the ground,” said Andy Lowery, Epirus CEO. “This agreement creates an opportunity for collaborative research to better understand how scalable HPM solutions can contribute to those goals.”
The CRADA reflects a shared commitment to evaluating technologies that have potential to increase resilience and flexibility for maneuver forces. Research will span system scaling, integration pathways for mobile platforms, and the operational benefits of electromagnetic defense effects within Army formations.
About Epirus
Epirus is a critical point defense solutions company protecting warfighters, civilians and essential infrastructure from the growing threat of drones and coordinated swarms. At the core of its solutions is Leonidas, an operationally deployed, solid-state, software-defined high-power microwave platform optimized to defeat individual drones and swarms with one-to-many effects and low collateral impact. Epirus combines Leonidas with modeling and simulation, intelligent sensing, command and control and complementary effectors to provide layered, adaptable protection for fixed sites and mobile formations across defense, homeland security and commercial markets.
